HP CARES FOR COOPER - MAIN FLYER (SOCIALS).jpg

Cooper's Story

Cooper Roberts, an 8-year-old boy full of youthful energy and zest for life, had an ordinary existence prior to July 4, 2022. He reveled in the activities typical of his age, such as engaging in sports, playfully wrestling with his twin brother, and finding joy in dancing to various music genres, particularly country music. Cooper eagerly anticipated the start of third grade, his spirit brimming with excitement. However, his life took an unimaginable turn during the Highland Park Independence Day parade.

Tragedy struck when a mass shooting erupted amidst the crowd gathered to celebrate the Fourth of July. In the midst of the chaos, Cooper fell victim to the violence, sustaining a grievous injury as he was shot in the back. The incident left him with life-altering consequences, confining him to a wheelchair for the rest of his days. The shooting not only shattered Cooper physically but also left an indelible mark on his spirit, forever altering his perspective and forcing him to confront unimaginable trauma at such a tender age.

In the midst of this tragedy, Chris Maliszewski, co-founder of the Walking Tall Movement, experienced the unimaginable alongside Cooper. Touched by the suffering endured by Cooper and his family, Chris and the Walking Tall Movement are committed to supporting the efforts of Billy Corgan and the NWA in raising funds for Cooper's ongoing medical and family needs. Their shared belief in the power of love and unity drives them to spread the message that there is more good in the world than bad, and that love will always prevail. Together, they aim to make a lasting impact, inspiring hope and a better future for Cooper, his family, and everyone affected by the tragedy.

HP Cares for Cooper NWA Event

“HP Cares for Cooper” is a free event for the community and marks the highly anticipated return of Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) to the Chicago area . "We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown extraordinary love and support as we fight for Cooper," said Keely Roberts, Cooper's mother. "It is the kindness and unwavering dedication of our community that has sustained us during these challenging months."
